There are many different types of cysts, classified by where they form and what causes them.

🔹 1. Sebaceous Cyst (Epidermoid or Pilar Cyst)

• Found under the skin, especially on the face, neck, or trunk

• Caused by blocked sebaceous (oil) glands

• Usually harmless but may become infected

🔹 2. Ovarian Cyst

• Forms on or in the ovaries

• Common during reproductive years (often linked to the menstrual cycle)

• Can cause pain, bloating, or complications like rupture or torsion

🔹 3. Ganglion Cyst

• Found near joints or tendons, especially on the wrist or hand

• Contains a jelly-like fluid

• Usually painless but can affect movement or cause pressure

🔹 4. Breast Cyst

• Fluid-filled sac in the breast tissue

• Common in women aged 35–50

• May feel tender, especially before menstruation

🔹 5. Pilar Cyst

• Develops from hair follicles, often on the scalp

• Usually firm and non-painful

🔹 6. Pilonidal Cyst

• Located near the tailbone at the top of the buttocks

• Can become infected and form an abscess

• More common in men and people who sit for long periods

🔹 7. Baker’s Cyst (Popliteal Cyst)

• Swelling behind the knee caused by fluid buildup from the knee joint

• Often associated with arthritis or a knee injury

🔹 8. Dermoid Cyst

• Congenital (present at birth), often contains hair, teeth, or skin tissue

• Found in ovaries, spine, or face

🔹 9. Bartholin’s Cyst

• Forms near the vaginal opening when Bartholin’s glands become blocked

• Can become painful or infected

🔹 10. Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS)

• Not one cyst but many small cysts in the ovaries

• Associated with hormonal imbalance, irregular periods, and fertility issues

🔹 11. Kidney Cysts

• Can be simple (common and usually harmless) or complex (possibly related to disease like PKD)

• May cause pain or affect kidney function
